Our security experts analyzed Michigan property crime rates, focusing on burglary, larceny, and motor vehicle theft statistics. We then identified key trends, which we’ve listed below.
Burglary in Michigan
After 76,313 incidents in 2006, Michigan’s burglary rate started declining dramatically. The state ended with 28,572 break-ins in our last reporting period, which is a 59% reduction from the starting figure of 70,527. It’s important to note that home invasions still represent roughly 18% of all property offenses across the Great Lakes State.
Larceny in Michigan
Our reports found that Michigan has experienced a substantial 42% reduction in theft. We tracked incidents from 194,090 in 2005, which have recently fallen to 111,980. While improvement has been made, these offenses comprise roughly 71% of the Great Lakes State’s property crime total, which is still concerning.
Car Theft in Michigan
Car theft in Michigan shows impressive improvement since we began recording in 2005. Our data shows a 63% decrease across the observation period. In our most recent findings, motor vehicle thefts totaled 17,744, over half of the peak of 50,098 reported in 2006.
