Burglary in Kentucky
Kentucky’s burglary rates peaked at 32,750 incidents in 2011 before falling steadily year-on-year. The state’s total decline over our 15-year window was 42%, from 26,458 to 15,443 break-ins. These offenses account for roughly 18% of the Bluegrass State’s property crime.
Larceny in Kentucky
We’ve noticed that Kentucky has made modest progress with a 16% decline in theft. Starting at 70,354 incidents and peaking at 79,586 in 2011, numbers dropped to 59,130 in our recent findings. Most years saw a decline in incidents, despite the crime accounting for roughly 70% of the state’s property crime.
Car Theft in Kentucky
Car theft in Kentucky shows a challenging trend. Motor vehicle thefts increased by 16% from 8,796 in 2005 to 10,196 in our latest results. Numbers were down significantly between 2009 and 2014, before steadily increasing from 2015. Total incidents are currently at their highest levels, which we’ll continue to monitor as more data comes in.
