Peak incidents reached 20,461 in 2007, with current levels working out to be about 15% of total property offenses. We attribute the improvements to enhanced security awareness throughout the Sunflower State.
Larceny in Kansas
Theft in Kansas has also seen a decline. Our first recording was 76,222 in 2005, and it has dropped to 50,165 incidents. Our analysis shows larceny accounts for approximately 74% of property crime. To date, theft has continued to decline annually across urban and rural areas of the Sunflower State.
Car Theft in Kansas
Car theft in Kansas has declined 22% in total over our observation period, dropping from 9,338 incidents to 7,279. Incidents hit a low of 5,958 in 2009 before steadily increasing. Numbers appear to have stabilized over the past five years. Currently, motor vehicle theft represents approximately 11% of all property crime statewide.
