Burglary in Washington
Break-ins and burglary in Washington dropped 43% through 15 years. It plummeted from 60,343 to 34,540 incidents. The peak also wasn’t too far off from the starting numbers – 60,725 burglaries, which happened in the eighth year of the observation period. Overall, the Evergreen State’s progress reflects home security improvements in the state.
Larceny in Washington
Washington experienced a 27% reduction in theft, with numbers falling from 198,031 to 145,282. Still, larceny comprises approximately 71% of all property crime in the Evergreen State. The good news is that while the decline has been slow, it’s been steady. The peak happened in the first year of our observation period, and the numbers have been going down since.
Car Theft in Washington
Auto theft in Washington dropped by half, making it the most-improved property crime in the state. Like larceny, auto theft incidents in Washington have been declining steadily. With 49,287 cases in the first year, the final year numbers show only 24,402 incidents. Across the state, Seattle showed particular improvement in vehicle recovery rates.
