Burglary in Vermont

Our experts documented Vermont’s most impressive crime reduction when they looked at burglary numbers over the 15-year study period. It plummeted 60% over the years. Now, this doesn’t mean there are no longer burglaries in Vermont. The state still recorded 1,275 incidents in the final year of the observation timeline. Still, that 60% decrease reflects Vermont’s strong community safety initiatives and adoption of modern security practices.

Larceny in Vermont

Theft also plummeted 33% across Vermont, falling from 10,894 to 7,315 incidents. While peak activity reached 11,802 incidents, larceny in Vermont declined substantially over the next few years. But watch out: our researchers found that larceny accounts for approximately 82% of the Green Mountain State’s property crime.

Car Theft in Vermont

Vermont achieved an outstanding 56% reduction in vehicle theft, dropping from 670 to 298. We found that these crimes comprise just 3% of property offenses in the state, the lowest proportion among all states we studied.
