New Hampshire Crime Stats

Our researchers have analyzed more than a decade’s worth of New Hampshire property crime rates. We broke down burglary, larceny, and motor vehicle theft trends statewide, looking for key patterns and insights. Here’s everything we found.

Burglary in New Hampshire

The Granite State has achieved a remarkable 59% reduction in burglaries over the past 15 years. Our data shows incidents plummeting from 4,192 to just 1,717, with peak activity reaching 6,244 break-ins in 2011. These offenses now account for about 10% of property crime, which is one of the lowest proportions in the Northeast.

Larceny in New Hampshire

At 84% of all property crime, larceny continues to dominate New Hampshire’s offense statistics more than any other state studied. While our data shows a 25% decline from 18,493 to 13,832 incidents, numbers have been up and down throughout our observation window. We noted that peak thefts reached 25,398 in 2011 before gradually declining up until our most recent report.

Car Theft in New Hampshire

Unlike larcenies, car theft in New Hampshire has shown a significant decline across the observation period, dropping from 1,346 to just 893. Motor vehicle thefts hit their peak at 1,486 in 2006, but today only represent approximately 5% of all property crime. Numbers have been steady since 2012, with little movement annually.
