Our team gathered 15 years’ worth of data based on Massachusetts property crime rates below. We reviewed burglary, larceny, and vehicle theft statistics to identify trends and outliers. Here’s everything we learned.
Burglary in Massachusetts
The Bay State has seen exceptional results in reducing home break-ins. Our first recording was 34,728 incidents, which ended up peaking at 37,903. Since 2011, burglaries began declining, finishing at 12,341 in our latest results. This is a remarkable 64% decrease. Our team found these offenses comprise approximately 15% of property crime, reflecting strong community safety initiatives.
Larceny in Massachusetts
Larceny has also seen an impressive decline in Massachusetts, dropping 36%. Our research revealed that 2008 was a turning point, with incidents peaking at 106,913, before falling to 62,844 in our last reporting period. Work still needs to be done, as theft represents about 77% of property offenses. It’s still promising to see consistent year-over-year improvement throughout the Bay State.
Car Theft in Massachusetts
