Our team of security experts have compiled and analyzed Maryland property crime rates, examining burglary, larceny, and motor vehicle theft data statewide. Here is what stood out to us.
Burglary in Maryland
Maryland has seen break-ins fall from 35,922 to 16,862 incidents, which works out to be a 53% decline. Our findings show that activity peaked at 38,849 burglaries in 2008 before numbers began declining steadily each year. Today, offenses account for roughly 14% of the Old Line State’s total property crime.
Larceny in Maryland
Theft incidents have dropped 30% across Maryland, from 128,491 to 89,780. Like burglary offenses, larcenies peaked in 2008 at 133,983 before trending downward. While these offenses still account for roughly 76% of property crime, our research shows that the numbers are steadily improving.
Car Theft in Maryland
We’ve also noticed that car theft in Maryland has seen remarkable improvement with a 67% decrease across our observation period. Motor vehicle thefts plummeted from 34,070 to 11,259. This is one of the most significant declines in property crime we’ve seen.
