Larceny in Maine
Theft incidents in Maine are also significantly down, dropping 44% from 24,218 to 13,667. Our data found that larceny comprises approximately 82% of property crime. That is the highest proportion in New England. Numbers peaked at 25,465 in 2006, before thefts started declining substantially across the Pine Tree State.

Car theft in Maine declined 46% across our observation period, dropping from 1,348 to 726. Activity picked up in 2011 before incidents began reducing year-on-year, with motor vehicle theft now representing approximately 4% of all property crime statewide.
