At approximately 74% of property crime, larceny is one of the most prominent offenses in Louisiana. Unfortunately, we’ve seen minimal change. Since 2005, we’ve recorded a 3% decline from 112,840 to 109,359 incidents. Peak thefts reached 118,291, with rates remaining relatively stable throughout the years in the Pelican State.
Car Theft in Louisiana
Unlike larceny, car theft in Louisiana has seen positive progress. Our numbers reveal a 26% decrease across the observation period. Motor vehicle thefts declined from 14,389 to 10,716. The latest total of 10,716 is higher than the 7,881 recorded in 2012. Overall, the 15-year crime trend shows encouraging improvement in vehicle security throughout Louisiana.
