What Is USAA Identity Theft Protection?

USAA is a company that only offers its services to current and former members of the military and their families. So if you aren’t associated in any way with the military, you won’t be able to get the USAA identity theft protection services.

The USAA identity theft protection services are free to their members. They have teamed up with Experian to provide their members, free of charge, with credit monitoring and alerts, a monthly FICO Score 8, fraud resolution support, a yearly credit report, FICO score tracker, and a FICO score simulator.

Considerations for USAA Identity Theft Protection

Although the USAA identity theft protection service is free and does offer some good protections, it doesn’t offer complete, full coverage identity theft protection services. And the services it does offer are limited. For example, you only get a copy of one credit bureau report (Experian) a year. Also, if you were to experience an identity theft event, the USAA identity theft protection service doesn’t have an identity theft insurance policy to help you, nor does it offer emergency funds, stolen funds reimbursement, lost wages reimbursement, or any of the other extremely important and helpful services to get through it and have your name and credit restored. Additionally, if you are a victim of identity theft, USAA does offer support from a U.S.-based fraud resolution agent. However, as per their website, they only offer step-by-step instructions that will help you do all the restoration work yourself.

Identity theft restoration is an extensive and extremely time-consuming process and if you get even one step wrong, it could ultimately cause you problems for years to come, possibly even for a lifetime. Identity theft resolution is not something you want to leave to chance and hope you get it right. It’s something that is better left to a professional who knows exactly what to do to help you get your name and identity cleared and your life back to normal.

What to Do When You Notice Identity Theft in Your USAA Account?

USAA states that if you ever suspect you are a victim of identity theft or any other type of fraud, to please contact them immediately to report it. You can report identity theft to the USAA Identity Theft Assistance Center at 1-877-762-7256.
