You probably already know you should never sign any contract before reading it…right? However, most people don't. Why? Because it's boring and takes too long. That's why we've thoroughly researched it for you and published our results here in a quick and easy to read summary. Here is what you need to know before making any decisions.
How Long Are Brinks Home Security Contracts?
Brinks has three available security packages and all except one require you to sign a three-year contract. We will talk about the no-contract option in a moment. With each option, you have to purchase the equipment upfront, but they have financing options available for those who qualify. Additionally, you will also have to pay for the monthly monitoring fees as well, but, of course, that means your home will be monitored 24/7 so it's all good.
What Are the Terms of Brinks Contracts?
The terms of a Brinks contract are as follows:
Credit Approval Required
Brinks requires you to pass a credit approval process before being allowed to sign a contract with them. Additionally, Brinks does not allow C.O.D. shipments. And, any of the Brinks offers may be modified or discontinued without notice.
Brinks requires you to be the rightful owner of the site where you will be installing their equipment. In addition, the packages require the installation and/or activation of an alarm system that is compatible with the Brinks Home Security monitoring service.
Returning the Brinks Equipment
The customer is responsible for all costs associated with returning a Brinks security system up to and including uninstallation and shipping costs.
If professional installation is required (some local laws require professional installation), you will be required to pay an additional installation fee.
Cost Recovery Fee
The cost recovery fee is the cost that Brinks has incurred in the provision and maintenance of their hardware, firmware, and other software that connects to a customer's home security system. This includes the alarm monitoring networks and the costs to replace a customer's home security system radio equipment utilizing legacy cellular networks.
Brinks Paper Statement Fee
Brinks has a paper statement fee they charge if you opt to receive a mailed paper monthly statement; however, they don't disclose what this fee is on their website. Brinks will waive this fee if you opt for electronic billing and enroll in AutoPay. You can do this by signing in to your brinkshome.com account and following the steps for enrollment.
What's the Brinks Cancellation Policy?
Before we explain the Brinks cancellation policy, please keep in mind that the Brinks equipment and packages come with a 30-day money-back guarantee. So if for any reason you don't like their system, you can return it and get your money back.
OK, now let's move on to the Brinks cancellation policy.
If within 90-days of the initial purchase, a Brinks customer can cancel their agreement and receive a refund of the original amount paid minus the shipping costs, taxes, and any services they have already received such as monitoring, etc. if the equipment is returned in like-new working condition. However, you will be charged a termination fee unless you cancel within the first 30 days. Brinks doesn't disclose the cost of their early termination fee on their website.
If outside of the first 90-days of service, a Brinks contract will remain in effect and the monitoring services will continue to be billed for the remaining term of the agreement. If the customer terminates their agreement early, Brinks may charge 80% of the monthly cost of services that remain on the customer's term.
If you need to cancel a Brinks contract, contact their customer service team for assistance, because there are additional terms and conditions that could apply.
Does Brinks Offer No Contract Options?
Brinks offers three packages and all but one require you to sign a contract. The only one that doesn't require you to sign a 36-month contract is the Nest Secure. This particular package is $399 for the initial purchase, when it's not on sale, and has an associated $29/mo. monitoring fee, but you won't be required to sign a contract.
There is no contract with this particular option so you can cancel at any time. However, if you cancel after the initial 30-day risk-free trial period, you won't be refunded for the equipment purchase and you will still be responsible for paying the GreenSky finance agreement you signed for that equipment.
What Happens to My Brinks Contract If I Move?
Brinks Home Security is a wireless self-installed system. Therefore, if you have to move, you can easily take your equipment with you and install it in your new home. After you have moved and installed the Brinks equipment in your new home, simply contact Brinks to let them know. And fortunately, your monthly monitoring rate will stay the same unless you decide to add additional Brinks services.
Does Brinks Offer an Equipment Financing Option?
Yes, they do. Brinks uses GreenSky as its credit partner. To apply, you simply provide them with some basic information to see if you qualify and you will receive an answer within five minutes. If you are approved for financing, you will receive 0% APR for 36-months. Then you can log-in to the GreenSky customer portal to make a payment or schedule a recurring payment, whichever works best for you.
Does the Brinks Equipment Come with a Warranty?
Yes, the Brinks equipment comes with a two-year warranty. If any of your equipment breaks within the first two years, Brinks will replace it.
