You have made a wise choice to install a home security system. Now you have to perform a little due diligence before you can decide which brands, options, and features best suit your needs. There are many factors that will determine what type of system you need. However, one of the first things you will need to know is whether you want a DIY (do-it-yourself) installation or whether you would prefer a professional perform the installation for you.
But there's another factor that plays into this decision. Some home security brands offer DIY products and some don't. In fact, some brands only offer professionally installed systems and don't give you the option of doing the installation yourself. And to take this issue further, some home security brands charge for their professional installations and some offer it at no charge.
That's why we have put together a summary of the ADT installation processes, costs, and questions to make it easier for you to make an educated decision about whether this brand is right for you.
ADT Installation Process
Currently, ADT does not offer any DIY home security equipment. They require all their components to be professionally installed. And, unfortunately, they do charge you for that service. Additionally, please keep in mind that ADT not only requires your system to be professionally installed, but they also require you to sign a long-term contract as well.
Since ADT installs all the equipment for you, let's briefly go over a few of ADT's most popular equipment.
ADT offers both indoor cameras and outdoor cameras, as well as a wide variety of home automation equipment. Unfortunately, the ADT indoor cameras are only included with the upper tier package. So if you want them, you will have to talk with ADT about adding them if you don't opt for the upper tier package.
ADT has a wide variety of sensors which include door, window, garage door, and glass break sensors. They also offer motion, carbon monoxide, smoke, water leak, and flood sensors. And their motion sensors are designed to ignore pets that weigh up to 50 pounds.
ADT offers a doorbell camera that comes with two-way audio, a wide-angle lens, night vision, wireless connectivity, and more.
ADT Installation Costs
Installation Phone Number
If you are ready to schedule your ADT product installation, you can call 1-877-238-4296. ADT will then schedule to have one of their highly trained, certified technicians come to your home.
How Long Will It Take to Get My New ADT Security System Installed?
ADT will schedule the installation at your convenience. And, in most cases, ADT can even provide you with the same-day installation. The installation technician will install all your security equipment including a digital keypad, as well as entryway and motion detectors and any other equipment you've opted for.
Does ADT Offer Free Installation?
ADT offers wired and wireless home security equipment. But, unfortunately, ADT does not offer free installation. Their installation fees are anywhere from $99 to $199. The exact cost of installation will depend on the package you have chosen. ADT uses experienced installation technicians with specialized electronics training to perform your install. And really, the fees ADT charges for installation are a small price to pay to make sure everything is done right. The last thing you want is to need your security system and have it not work, especially when time is of the essence.
Does ADT Offer Discounted Installation?
At this time, ADT does not offer any type of product installation discounts. We recommend checking with them from time to time as many companies are known for periodically offering discounts and specials. However, with that being said, ADT doesn't typically discount their installation costs, but that doesn't mean they won't.
Moving Into a Home with ADT Installed
If you move into a home that already has an ADT security system installed—GREAT! This will save you loads of money because you won't have to pay for the installation—all you have to do is activate it.
Can ADT be Installed in an Apartment?
Many apartment communities already have wired security systems in place. In that case, all you have to do is activate it. Additionally, in most cases, if the apartment community has some other security brand's equipment in place, ADT can use that third-party equipment as well. However, if another brand's equipment is already installed, you should check with the apartment management before going with ADT because they might have restrictions against using another brand. This is because many apartments have exclusive security contracts either with ADT or some other home security brand.
If your community doesn't have any type of security system already in place, you will first need to check with management to find out what they will and won't allow you to do. Then, if given permission to install a security system, be sure to get in writing exactly what you can and can't do. Can you install a wired or wireless system, what can be installed and where, and will they allow you to take the equipment with you when you move? If everything is approved by management, ADT offers both wired and wireless home security systems from which you can choose, depending on what your management company gives you permission to do.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Please note that ADT requires you to sign a long-term monitoring contract, so you will want to make sure you will be living at that community for the long-term before signing that contract (unless your apartment has other community-specific arrangements in place).
