Abode home security is known for providing an outstanding level of connectivity for the smart home features it offers. When it comes to things like security cameras with features like 24-hour professional monitoring, short-term monitoring, and remote notifications through an app, Abode is an excellent choice. It is also a competitively priced option. Yet, it does have some drawbacks. One of those is its lack of doorbell connectivity.
Does Abode Offer a Video Doorbell?
The short answer to this question is no. The company, at the time of this writing, does not have its own doorbell camera or system. That doesn’t mean this won’t change. The company is newer and is still working on getting its footing in an ever-growing and crowded market. However, the company has provided some indication that it plans to offer a doorbell at some point in the future. There’s no way to know if that will happen, but for now, your video doorbell is not available directly from Abode.
How Does Abode Connect?
Because there are so many products hitting the market in this area, it is wise to keep your eyes on new product launches. Abode continues to work to make its products more connect-worthy. Over time, you may see new products that work with Abode.
As of this writing, Abode offers connectivity through Z-wave, Z-Wave +, ZigBee, Wi-Fi, IFTTT, and other methods. If you find an off-brand video doorbell that connects using these tools, you may be able to use that to provide for your needs. Keep in mind, though, that this means setting up a system that works for your goals with multiple components.
If you do find an Abode doorbell-compatible system, it will be connected through the Abode app. However, integrating a solution is not always simple to do.
Does Abode Work with Nest?
Nest is another brand of smart home automation and cameras. One of the nice things about Nest is that it integrates with a wide range of other smart home systems. And, in some cases, you can link your Nest to your Abode system. You can integrate Abode with your Nest devices. This would allow you to control your Nest devices through your Abode app.
To do this, you will need to sign in to your Abode application as a first step. Then, there is a link in the left-hand navigation list that says “integrations.” From there, you will find a link for Nest devices. Once you click on this link, you can then click “Add Nest Integration” to set it up. You will be asked a few questions within the app.
Then, you will need to enter the credentials you have for your Nest system. This includes your email address and password for Nest. Once you enter this, the Abode app will log into the Nest system. This allows you to select which of your Nest devices you would like to integrate into your Abode app. Choose the Nest Cam, for example, if you want a doorbell solution.
Once you do this, you are then able to receive notifications from your Nest devices through the Abode app. It is very simple to use, and it allows you to have an all-in-one system to manage your cameras.
The Nest Cam is an excellent overall camera. You can also link your Nest Hello Video Doorbell, the company’s latest product offering. This would give you a fully functional video doorbell without having to use an abode System.
It is also important to know that this type of integration has some limits. For example, if you have the Connect or the Secure plan, you will get snapshots and animated images within your timeline for about ten days. After this time, the app will delete them. Even though these plans provide you with a longer timeframe for keeping these images, the Abode app does not allow them to remain longer than the 10 days. That can be a concern for some individuals.
What Other Solutions Do They Have?
Over the last year, Abode has been working to increase its connectivity with other smart home systems. It is working, for example, on connectivity with Amazon’s Echo devices. This would allow for a property owner to connect their Amazon smart assistant-enabled devices to the Abode system.
You can follow the same basic principles as listed above for your Nest integration to link to an Amazon-connected device. However, there are limitations to this process. For example, you can link your Abode system to your Amazon devices, but this would only allow for notifications to be received on your phone through your app. In other words, you may not have a true video doorbell to use to see what is happening or to be able to use two-way audio.
Integrating Abode with your doorbell cameras is an option. For those that love Abode, though, the goal would be to see the company launch its own video doorbell.
