SimpliSafe offers a keychain remote, entry sensors, video security options, glass break sensors, and environmental hazard sensors. C.O.P.S. provides 24/7 professional monitoring on a month-to-month basis without the hassle of a long-term contract. Additional devices are available for purchase as desired.

Ooma offers geo-location to support their self-monitoring system. The mobile app allows for both remote access and includes a 9-1-1 feature that allows you to call the authorities in the event of an emergency. All of the equipment is wireless, except for the VoIP telo portion of the system which is separate from the home security part. Ooma also offers at least partial environmental hazard detection.

SimpliSafe does not require contracts. Their monitoring service is paid on a month-to-month basis.

Ooma is a self-monitoring system. They do offer 24/7 monitoring through their mobile app for less than $5 per month.

To purchase the SimpliSafe system outright, the price can fall anywhere between $230 and $540. They offer two main options for monitoring, the Standard for $14.99 a month and the Interactive for $24.99 a month. SimpliSafe offers a wide selection of equipment that can be purchased at any time and included in your package.

Ooma requires their Telo system to be in place prior to the installation of the home security system. The Ooma Telo system starts at $99.99 and requires a monthly fee of $4.09 in fees and taxes. The basic Ooma home security kit starts at $179.97. There are multiple devices that can be included in the package making it is to customize.

SimpliSafe offers several devices to choose from. The basic package includes the keypad, base, keychain remote, an entry sensor, and a motion sensor. You can also add environmental hazard detectors, surveillance cameras, and additional sensors that can be placed throughout your home.

In addition to requiring the Telo device, you will also have their mobile app, an entry sensor, motion sensor, and water hazard detector. Ooma also offers smoke and fire detectors, butterflye cameras, and a garage door sensor.

Both systems are designed to be set up by the consumer.

Emergency Connections

SimpliSafe is monitored through cellular connectivity by C.O.P.S. They will notify you, numbers on your contact list, and the local authorities as soon as an alert is triggered. The system also allows for self-monitoring which means you would be responsible for calling 9-1-1.

Ooma offers 24/7 self-monitoring through the mobile. To sign-up for the cellular service that supports the monitoring, it is less than $5 per month. You are responsible for calling 9-1-1 if an alert is triggered.

Summary: SimpliSafe vs Ooma

SimpliSafe is a great system if you want the added convenience of professional monitoring without a long-term contract or professional set-up. It works well for renters and is affordable for the number of features offered.

Ooma is a good service if you have few security worries. It's also a good idea if you could take advantage of the required Telo service. The packages are affordable and the monitoring is efficient if you like do-it-yourself systems.
