Differences: Sesame vs August

The biggest difference between August and Sesame has to do with the level of security that is offered by each lock. Sesame allows anyone who has the smartphone app and knows the password or “knock” sequence to be able to gain entry into the home. While Sesame is capable of working with Alexa and Google platforms, its features are more limited than those of August.

August smart locks are designed to fit almost any size of deadbolt lock. It includes an app that can be downloaded to your smartphone. With the app in place, you can lock or unlock your door from a short distance away using the geofencing feature. A doorbell video cam is also available. August locks pair easily with most home automation platforms and home security systems that are already in use. August offers both keypad and standard key entry options.

Sesame also features a smartphone app that allows for the locking and unlocking of the mechanism as long as you are within 15 to 30 feet of the door. You can use a spoken keyword/phrase or a unique knock sequence to unlock the door. Sesame can also pair with Alexa, Google, and other home automation platforms for a few of its features.

The August 3rd Gen Smart Lock can be purchased for $99 all the way up to $125, depending on where you choose to shop. Smart Lock Pro has two options to choose from. The first costs approximately $228 and the second for $249. August also sells older versions of these locks in addition to a wide variety of other models.

Sesame's 2nd Gen Smart Lock can be found on Amazon for just under $150. With discounts, you can purchase it for considerably less. The Access Point that is needed for Wi-Fi connectivity will run you about $60 when purchased off of the Candy House website.
