What Happened to the Verizon Medical Alert System?

The Verizon SureResponse medical alert system was a wireless personal response system that could be used both inside and outside of the home. This personal emergency alert system was stylish and practical. It included a belt clip and could also be worn as a pendant or a bracelet.

What Happened to Verizon's Medical Alert System?

Verizon discontinued the SureResponse system back in 2014. The SureResponse device was a great device, in theory, offering GPS, cellular connectivity and more.  However, feedback from customers indicated that the system had several flaws. For one the design was really poor. It did not offer great water resistance, as advertised. Second, the battery life was really dismal. These issues probably led Verizon to discontinue the device.

What Were the Features of Verizon's Medical Alert System?

Verizon’s SureResponse system included:

  • 24-hour emergency response service
  • GPS location services
  • Cellular connectivity through Verizon Wireless
  • Water resistance

Alternatives to Verizon Medical Alert Systems

There are many reliable alternatives to Verizon’s old medical alert system. The newer systems have a variety of updated features that were not available on Verizon’s old system. Here are some of the best current systems on the market.

1. Bay Alarm Medical

For a great alternative to Verizon’s SureResponse System, we’d recommend Bay Alarm Medical’s Mobile GPS System.  Like Verizon, Bay Alarm Medical offers 24-hour professional monitoring. Trained responders can contact family members, caregivers or your local 911 services in the event of an emergency.

The Mobile GPS System is not yet available. However, Bay Alarm is currently taking pre-orders for this device. This device includes GPS location services and 24/7 help at the push of a button. It is ultra-lightweight and made for on-the-go use. You can use it at home if you’d like. The Mobile GPS System comes with a free carrying case and belt clip, as well as a free necklace style lanyard.

Bay Alarm also offers caregiver tracking for $10 extra per month. The Caregiver GPS Tracking Portal lets caregivers check on a loved one’s location via an online platform. Caregivers can also set up notifications to receive alerts if a loved one leaves the area.  Here are some of the other features of Bay Alarm’s Mobile GPS System:

  • 30-day risk-free trial

The MobileHelp Solo offers a lot more features than Verizon’s old system. For one, it comes with MobileHelp Connect, which is a suite of online tools to help you or family members/caregivers manage your health. It includes things like medication reminders, smartphone notifications, and more. MobileHelp also offers a Lifetime price guarantee, so you never have to worry about the cost of your service plan increasing.
