National S.A.F.E. Home Board of Directors

 Robert Johnson started the first S.A.F.E. Home project in his home town, Clearfield, Pa., with his own funds.  Mr. Johnson has received numerous awards:  (1) "Citizen of the Year", Clearfield Rotary, (2) "Fire Preventer of the Year," International Association of Fire Chiefs, (3) "National Jefferson Award," American Institute for Public Service and (4) "Fire Prevention Recognition Award," Clearfield Vol. Firefighters Assn., for his charitable services to the community.

           Michelle Destino-Moran is National S.A.F.E. Home Foundation's President and Treasurer and is responsible for coordinating community programs and developing S.A.F.E. Home partnerships with fire departments, hospitals, civic organizations, Red Cross chapters and other injury prevention outreach services.  Mrs. Destino-Moran, a graduate of Bryant & Stratton Business Institute, has over 28 years of business experience in fire safety promotion, sales, marketing and office management positions.  She is a past member of Kiwanis International and Co-Coordinator of Western New York SAFE KIDS Coalition.

             Daniel M. Moran is the newly elected Vice President of the Foundation supporting and assisting in charity registration, fundraising events, implementing and maintaining the office computer network system  and helping develop the Foundation’s website.  He retired from Goodyear/Dunlop in Buffalo in August 2003 with 37 years employed by that company.  He is a past member of Kiwanis International and a racing bicyclist.

            Gail S. Lenney was elected Secretary of the Foundation in May 2002.  She has been the Fundraising Coordinator since March 2000.  Responsibilities include grant research for specific programs, coordinating fundraising events and state charity registrations.  Worked for M&T Bank for 5 years as an accountant and TGI Fridays has a hostess, expediter and comptroller.  Chairperson and treasurer for Mercy Flight Benefits in 1992 & 1993 raising a total of $36,000.  Attended Niagara University for accounting and is a member of the Western New York Safe Kids Coalition.

            Michael J. Kime is a teenage victim of fire whose concern for fire safety developed from his own life experience.  He founded Marino Group Inc., a marketing firm representing independent producers of board games, card games and puzzles.  He has marketing and sales experience with Alberto-Culver Co. and other major consumer products companies.

             Lawrence A. Mattison brings his public relations and management experience in the safety area from his company, Funtech Home Safety.  As President of Funtech, he has designed, developed, and brought Safety's Sake smoke alarms fully to market.  Prior to establishing Funtech, Mr. Mattison obtained extensive management, research and development and sales experience as Program Manager and Electro-Optical Engineer at Scipar, Inc.  Mr. Mattison is a graduate of the Rochester Institute of Technology.

            Wayne F. Piacente brings us invaluable financial expertise.  He is the VP of Finance at SMG Tri Electronics, Buffalo, N.Y.  Mr. Piacente is Immediate Past-President of Kiwanis Club of the Boulevard, Amherst and is a graduate of Canisius College.

            Margo Lapides had a successful sales career with the Gillette Company before starting her own international business, Margo Sales and Marketing.  Her marketing background is an asset to us in our efforts to expand our programs and scope.

            Albert E. Weisser currently serves as Fire Safety Officer for the Town of Amherst.  Additionally, he is Past President of the Hutchinson Hose Volunteer Fire Company.   He has devoted most of his adult life to fire safety and his expertise is an invaluable resource for us.

        

            This Board of Directors relies on the support and advice of associate organizations such as the U.S. Fire Administration, N.Y.S. Department of Fire Prevention and Control, International Association of Fire Chiefs, National Association of State Fire Marshals, National Fire Protection Association, Fire & Life Safety Coalition, Center for Injury Prevention and many public educators across the country.  We also consult with health care experts such as University of Iowa Hospital & Clinic Burn Center, McKennan Hospital Burn Treatment Center, Sioux Falls, S.D., Via Christi - St. Francis Burn Center, Wichita, Ks. and Burn Children Recovery Foundation, Everett, WA.
