"I didn't have a smoke alarm until the hospital gave me one.

I was always meaning to get one."

A mother and her two children, ages nine months and two years, are alive today because of the warning from the smoke alarm gift she received from the hospital where her baby was born in Fairmont, WV.

"Two other smoke alarms in the home were inoperable."

In Akron, New York a free smoke alarm given to Justin, a kindergarten student, saved his life and the lives of his three year-old brother, Matthew, his parents and the upstairs neighbor in their two-story home.

"We were very glad to have that smoke detector."

A house fire in St. Mary's Pennsylvania could have claimed a family of four. But all four, including a newborn baby, escaped harm thanks to a new smoke alarm they had just received through the Elk County S.A.F.E. Home program.

In Creve Coeur, Missouri a smoke alarm won in the Fire Protection District drawing, alerted the parents and three children to a faulty furnace.

In Post Falls, Idaho a furnace failed to shut off in a mobile home. The smoke alarm installed by the Fire Department the day before woke up the owner.
